Thanks, nojo, for keeping the virtual Ark afloat. As for the poor CEOs, I think it's time for class warfare.
  • JNOV · 1 year ago
    Hey -- I'm checking in. I should've yelled FIRST!!1! when I had the chance.
  • prommy · 1 year ago
This is nice here, Nojo. I love the habitrail.

Hey -- who knows something about Germany? About a dozen or so years ago, I took a comparative politics class where we learned that Germany has members of its workers' union on companies' boards, and there either is some cap on how many times more a CEO can be paid than the workers, or maybe it's a cultural restriction, but they are certainly not paying them thar CEOs like we do. Or they weren't paying them like we were back when I took the class. Anyone know?

How come your disqus works faster than that other place's disqus? It is melting down, huh? And disqus lets me edit forevah and evah! But I can't reply like I want, but when someone replies to me, I get a little email in my inbox. If disqus can keep moving as quickly as it is now, I might maybe eventually be okay with it.
  • nojo · 1 year ago
@jnov: My, that is a fast Disqus, ain't it? I've had a number of suspicions about CP's hosting service. This just adds to them.
  • JNOV · 1 year ago
And I'd like to add that my son immediately recognized Nojo's stuffed animal is a hamster. I thought it was a turkey vulture or something.
  • Cynica · 1 year ago
@JNOV: I can put up with any comments system as long as we can all get together and bitch. I'm not going to make it thru election season without you guys.
Was listening to the podcast of Wait, Wait Don't Tell me and heard about a hamster who had escaped in his little rubber hamster ball passing motorists stuck in traffic. I'm thinking it's the CP hamster and he's gotten so scared by our comments about the state of the world that he made a break for it, and is off to set up his own survivalist compound.
  • prommy · 1 year ago
That was an episode of the wonder years, I think, the hamster passing the cars stuck in traffic.

There's no comfort in complaining anymore, its all over. This is "shock and awe" pys-ops, and the fascists, and Bush has always been a fascist, and so are most rich Texans, no exageration or hyperbole, the fascists are finally killing the new deal. They are stampeding Congress into passing this transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich, and it will make fixing SS, creating a health insurance system, it will make all progressive programs impossible. And this always was the intent of the republicans, David Stockman admitted it just 2 years after Reagan took office.

    We really are totally fucked.

Bush and Cheney aren't going to desperately cling to power, they're not going to cancel the election, have a coup d' etat., or even count on controlling psychogeezer as their puppet.

    Nope, they're gonna go.

But they are gonna trash the place on the way out. And thats what they're doing. They have no restraint on them, they have no reputation to lose, they are going to be more and more reckless as the clock ticks down. After the election, then there'll be bombs falling.

@prommy: I'm wondering if there will be a bloody revolution this century.

Also, Nojo, I can haz bloglinky here? I put you on mine.
  • nojo · 1 year ago
@rptrcut: You can haz handjob when I haz a moment -- busy day on the hackwork front...

This is just beauitiful, Bill Clinton goes on Letterman last night and praises McCain, defends Palin, and then cannot even say the name "Obama." So Chris Rock comes on after him, and says "someone's gotta tell him, Hillary lost. SHE LOST. She's not running.." Oh smack, I love that man. Bill is in deep bitter-land, I think he wanted it more than Cankles.

  • chicagobureau · 1 year ago
No, no, no prommy -- the Clintons are totes behind Black Eagle. I hear that Hillary Clinton is going to go to a rally today and lay some sweet, sweet smackdown on Sarah Palin on her being too chickenshit to let the press within 50 yards of -- what the?

[spooky looking vortex opens in wall, sucking Chicago Bureau into it and depositing him into the same place he was before, only in the "correct" position in the time-space continuum]

What just happened? Wait, let me check something. And..... yes -- the Clintons totally blow. I thought something wasn't quite right when I woke up this morning.

(BTW: The Mothership was working just fine in the alternate dimension I was just in. How about in this dimension -- any sort of update?)

ALSO: if word can be sent up and down the line -- there was talk recently about a local CP get-together here in Shekagoh. I would suggest Friday Night at some place with a teevee and lots of alcohol, so that the debate can be enjoyed properly.
  • nojo · 1 year ago
@cb: The mothership is reading from the database fine, but you can't write to it -- you can't even save a draft of a post right now. The comments still work there because Disqus keeps them in its own database, far from the madding hamsters.

If this bailout gets through without any meaningful oversight (which it will), I'm gonna head down to my bank and tell them that I need a personal bailout. Something along the lines of, say, $50K for starters.
  • Cynica · 1 year ago
Apparently Paulson and Bernanke are getting it from all sides in the hearing. Almost wish I could watch C-SPAN at work.
    From NYT:
Asserting that the plan would allow Mr. Paulson to act with “absolute impunity,” Senator Dodd said, “After reading this proposal, I can only conclude that it is not only our economy that is at risk, Mr. Secretary, but our Constitution, as well.”
  • prommy · 1 year ago
Hey, check this out, a recent study found that easily startled, jumpy people, scaredy-cats, you know, pussies, more likely to be conservatives:

Amazing, just what I always thought, conservatives are frightened people. Afraid of empowered women, afraid black criminals are coming to rape them and steal their wives, afraid spicy food, afraid of furriners, afraid of change, afraid other people are looking down on them.

Guess thats why love authority and cops and uniforms and the military a big strong daddy-government to keep them safe, test their urine, and tell them what to do, its why they like reciting creeds in unison and all that herd-like stuff, too.
  • Tommmcatt_Interrupted · 1 year ago
Hey, Nojo, you need some throw pillows or something over here, spruce the place up.

Pics of half-naked Fillino guys romping in the surf would be nice. Just a thought.
  • Tommmcatt_Interrupted · 1 year ago
ALSO: I wish someone would authorize me to act with absolute impunity. There would be a lot more defenestrations.
  • flippin · 1 year ago
@Nojo: Thanks so much for continuing to provide a little patch of shelter for us cynical souls. You're doing more than the gov't would do (is doing) to keep a roof over our heads. BTW I can haz pretty litle star too? I know, I know it's probably because it's your blog and your responsibilty to moderate yada yada, but I would just feel so special like I got all the multiplication problems right!

@Chicago Bureau: I did have some informal debate-watching plans with friends, but I've been waiting anxiously for a CP meetup and could be talked into ditching them if we could round up the troops for alcohol and snide remarks.
  • nojo · 1 year ago
@flippin: One day a star turned up next to my name at Defamer, and I had no clue what it meant. I figured it was an interactive version of The Sneetches.
  • nojo · 1 year ago
By the way, I have absolutely no clue what's been going on the past couple of days -- no I don't mean that, I mean in the world. Are we bankrupt yet?
  • prommy · 1 year ago
Nojo: McCain's entire strategy is now playing the refs (complaining to the press about coverage) and standing Talibunny next to important people, so long as she never says anything but "Soccer Mom!"

Bush, Paulson, and Bernanke have been trying to stampede Congress into just giving Wall Street a Trillion dollars, no questions asked, "here, have this, enjoy," I guess as a consolation prize because he couldn't give them social security (see for comparison his giving the Texas state employee pension funds to one of his dad's cronies).

But some dems and also republicans are balking, and each hour that goes by without monsters coming out from under our beds and eating us, the urgency recedes.

Pakistan is now shooting at us and is within hearing distance of a fundamentalist-al-queada takeover, Russia told us to fuck off and we are powerless to do anything about it, and now they are end-arounding us on Iran,

Obama is kinda treading water, speaking strongly but being ignnored because he's a democrat and noone wants to hear serious policy.

Al Quaeda has done a couple of major attacks, overseas, Islamabad and that african country, and the US army has stationed an active and ready combat division in the US which is now training in putting down civil unrest.

Bush is off the wagon, there will be a terrorist attack in the US before November, and he knows it, you can tell by the hideous uncontrollable smirking, guy has so many tells, wish I could play poker with him.

Someone posted the latest Matt Taibbi piece on Sarah Palin that's in the current issue of Rolling Stone.

It's a beautiful screed, even if Taibbi's been a bit full of himself.

    @ Prom

    Thanks for sharing.

Hey, alls, didja look at the pools this morning? Looking good....
